About Ryo

Bio

Ryo Sakaguchi is a Visual Effects Supervisor and CG Director with more than 20 years of experience working on large-scale film and television productions in Hollywood.

His work includes projects such as Marvel's Eternals, Free Guy, Game of Thrones, The Meg, and Yu Yu Hakusho, where he has led complex productions involving hundreds of artists across multiple countries and studios. He received a Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is a member of the Academy’s visual effects branch.

Beyond his creative responsibilities, Ryo’s role has consistently required building and leading cross-cultural teams. On productions such as Yu Yu Hakusho, he oversaw visual effects work across vendors in North America, Asia, and Australia, coordinating pipelines, communication, and decision-making across continents.

He has also worked closely with Netflix through Scanline and Eyeline Studios, including contributing to the development of teams and workflows at Eyeline’s Seoul studio. Part of this work involved helping teams operate more effectively across cultural and communication differences in real production environments. He has additionally served as a VFX consultant for Netflix Japan.

Over time, this experience led him to recognize that many of the challenges professionals face in international environments are not language problems, but cultural ones. The work presented here is based on that experience, shaped through years of operating inside high-pressure, cross-cultural teams where clarity, timing, and presence directly impact outcomes.
